Speaking to News2Share’s Trey Yingst, Baltimore Police Department spokesperson Melvin Russell said that the city is in a state of “spiritual warfare.” Moments after giving a speech to volunteers at the Ames Memorial United Methodist Church, the spokesperson said that, “This isn’t just violence happening. This isn’t just stuff happening. There are things going on in the spiritual realm that the natural man doesn’t understand.”

Earlier, Russell told the church community that “we [Baltimore Police] weren’t doing the best.” Russell goes on to say that it’s time to “step up our game.” While he was referring to the police department itself, Russell told the volunteers that community outreach and events are vital to bringing the city out of a dark time.
