Environmental activists with Extinction Rebellion DC submerged a model “row house” into the Tidal Basin in Washington DC, near the Jefferson Memorial, to protest what they call the emergency of rising sea levels due to climate change.

One activist, who swam around with the row house in the Potomac river and ultimately abandoned it as he returned to shore, was arrested as he tried to leave. Parks Police officers would not say what he’s being charged with.

“We sunk a house to symbolize our very near future. DC is going to be underwater soon,” a press liaison for Extinction Rebellion told News2Share.

“We clean up after ourselves. But once, again, the city beat us to it — the model house is now in police custody,” Extinction Rebellion DC’s official Twitter account reported after the action.
