Border Patrol agents patrolled the New Orleans neighborhood of Kenner Saturday afternoon, with Commander Greg Bovino knocking on a door with backup agents’ hands on their guns as activists blew whistles, warning people of the feds’ presence nearby.
“Massive disturbance at apartment complex in Kenner,” Cmdr Bovino appeared to type as more gathered around the agents in their vehicles.
As the Border Patrol caravan took off with a state police escort, several activist vehicles followed, honking and whistling in warning.
“I lost two tenants so far!” one person following Border Patrol told me about them.
Activists followed and blew whistles, as the agents also filmed from their cars.
Louisiana State Police escorted the agents around the community.
CBP Cmdr Greg Bovino led his agents into a Circle K, followed by press, protesters, and supporters blowing whistles.
Pro-Trump content creator Nick Sortor, who recently met with President Trump, introduced himself and offered to “buy you something” but was declined.
Protesters assemble Saturday night
“We saw Chicago fight back! We saw the Carolinas fight back! We saw LA fight back, because the masses of people stand with each other!”
Protesters gathered Saturday night in New Orleans to commit their resistance to the Border Patrol surge taking place.
Protesters condemned Louisiana policies collaborating with federal immigration law enforcement and making it a crime to interfere with them.
“Shame!” they chanted.
“ICE out! ICE out!”
“The deportations, shut it down!”
“The whole damn system, shut it down!”
Pro-Trump content creator Nick Sortor got into a physical altercation with anti-Border Patrol protesters. As more people gathered around him, Sortor questioned participants about whether they’d condemn the shooting of National Guardsmen.
As the protest continued, Sortor ran in front of the speaker and was promptly pushed out by the protest’s marshals.
He then attempted to flank around up the steps behind the speaker, where participants attempted to block him as well.
In a similar move, a woman ran in front of the speaker during chants of “when immigrant rights are under attack, what do we do? Stand up, fight back!”
While drowned out, she filmed herself apparently yelling “Deport! Deport! Deport!”
Whistles and marching promote resistance on Sunday afternoon
“Trump, get Bovino out!” chanted protesters marching Sunday in Kenner, Louisiana, demanding an end to the federal surge led by Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino.
“No hate, no fear, immigrants are welcome here!” they yelled on the street and in vehicles.
The protesters blew whistles as they marched specifically through a neighborhood in Kenner where Bovino’s forces had searched for an apparent target in days prior.
“Get out! Get out!” one woman yelled, referring to CBP.
“It’d be different if they were going after criminals or people like they say, but we see that they’re going around schools,” one organizer described. “They’re going to communities, grabbing people from work, things like that.”
“People are scared to go to work,” he says, adding that some are not showing up to work at construction projects he works at out of fear of CBP.
Louisiana State Police arrived at the demonstration and took a friendly demeanor while pressing the group to stay on the sidewalk, not the road, which they complied with.
“The state troopers are helping ICE! Don’t be fooled!” a woman yelled. “We don’t want ICE in our cities!”
“Fuera ICE!” (“ICE Out!”) the protesters chanted.
“Bovino! Henaro! Fuera del pantano!” they chanted specifically calling out CBP Commander Greg Bovino (Rough translation: “Bovino, little leader, get out of our swamp!”)
Protesters received scattered reports of immigration law enforcement activity taking place nearby, and some sought to march toward the supposed action, while others sought further confirmation.
In the end, the demonstration did not come into direct contact with feds.
Border Patrol operations continue around New Orleans region
Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino led agents around the Kenner and New Orleans areas again Monday.
“Thank you for making America great again,” a apparent fan told him while taking a selfie outside the local Circle K.
Bovino gave him a personal challenge coin.
As they’ve done for the past week, activists in cars followed the agents around Kenner, driving in circles, honking horns, and blowing whistles to alert the community of their presence.
Louisiana State Police escorted them assisting in shaking those following off their tail.
The Louisiana State Police collaborated directly with Border Patrol, escorting their operation around and offering their station as a staging area.
CBP Cmdr Greg Bovino, asked about the warning whistles and horns from activists, said “it actually helps us, often times that helps, so we incorporate that into our strategy.”
“We’re able to look at a reaction from the horn and gather intel and information from that.”
