United States Capitol Police arrested a reported 181 protesters Thursday afternoon as they blocked an intersection near the Supreme Court for abortion rights.
Among the arrestees were Congresswoman Judy Chu and Poor People’s Campaign leader Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II.
“I’m here to make sure that every woman in every state in the country have access to abortion,” Rep. Chu told News2Share minutes before being arrested. “What the Supreme Court did was devastating. We have to stand up to it.”
“And we can actually enshrine the protections of Roe versus Wade with my bill, the “Women’s Health Protection Act,” she added. “It passed the house. It needs to pass the senate.”
Rev. Barber described wanting to protect women’s rights and voting rights. “We want all our rights! We want them all! Not just some!”
“We won’t go back!”
