“Biden Biden, you will see! Palestine will be free!”
A coalition of thousands of activists held a Free Palestine march in Washington D.C. Saturday afternoon.
“Israel is a terror state!” chanted activists on the steps of the National Archives. “Israel is an apartheid State!”
“Hey hey, ho ho, the occupation has got to go!”
“Jerusalem is ours alone!” chanted the activists as they approached the U.S. Capitol. “Gaza is ours alone!”
“Settler settler go back home, Palestine is ours alone!”
“Free, free Palestine!”
“Palestine is no longer taboo! We are rising,” said Jinan Shabt of The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee when the group arrived and rallied on the west side of the U.S. Capitol. “We have members of congress who support us!”
She encouraged activists to reach out to congress.
“We need to condition the aid to Israel,” she added.
Hannah Shraim from told attendees to demand congress divest from Israel and support for House Bill 2590, whose formal title is “To promote and protect the human rights of Palestinians living under Israeli military occupation and to ensure that United States taxpayer funds are not used by the Government of Israel to support the military detention of Palestinian children, the unlawful seizure, appropriation, and destruction of Palestinian property and forcible transfer of civilians in the West Bank, or further annexation of Palestinian land in violation of international law.”
“Invest it back into our Black and Brown communities who are policed by a terror force,” Shraim said. “Not into the state of Israel.”
Director of Outreach & Grassroots Organizing for the American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) Taher Herzallah noted that Biden is holding a White House Eid celebration tomorrow, which received instant “boos” from the crowd.
“You better believe we will not walk on the graves of our Palestinian children by celebrating with him,” Herzallah said, encouraging a boycott.
“We need sanctions! Demilitarize Israel!” said Professor Noura Erakat in the final official speech of the event. “Save all of Palestine from the river to the sea! We will all be free!”
She led the group in chants of “Free, free Palestine!” before complimenting the movement for not giving up over decades.
