As hundreds of protesters face off with government security forces in Beirut, Lebanon, Lebanese-American activists held a solidarity rally at the Lebanese Embassy in Washington DC.

The protests stem from new taxes being added by the government, which protesters feel will hurt the Lebanese economy, especially burdening the poor.

“We’re out here to make a change in Lebanon” said the event’s organizer. “It’s been 30 years of corruption, of stealing public money. It’s about time to change something. It’s about time that we had a good government that can build a good country.”
