At least 20 were arrested in front of Secretary John Kerry’s DC home on Tuesday at a protest against a Midwest tar sands pipeline.

The action, called Midwest Unrest, demanded an immediate stop to what protesters see as the illegal transfer of tar sands into the United States by energy company Enbridge. Demonstrators accused Enbridge of bypassing government regulations by swapping tar sands from the Alberta Clipper pipeline to other pipelines at the US-Canada border.

Protesters called on Secretary Kerry to reverse the State Department’s approval of Enridge’s operations, calling the tar sands in question “dangerous” and “climate-killing.”
