Negotiations have faltered between Shiite Houthi rebels and the recognized government of President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.
Saudi-led coalition forces have been conducting airstrikes throughout Yemen after a power struggle with Houthi militants forced Hadi to flee Sana’a in February.
The UN estimates that more than 1 million Yemenis have been internally displaced by continued Saudi-led strikes and fighting.
Yemen is fast entering a water and sanitation crisis, with drinking water in short supply and tropical diseases such as dengue fever and malaria thriving in war-torn cities. Since March, the conflict has directly claimed more than 2,800 lives.
In Geneva, diverging views and quarrels between representatives have led to lack of progress on a peace proposal. Yemeni citizens are left disappointed and hopeless, with many losing faith of peace arriving within months, or even years.
