As thousands came to Boston for the First Night 2015 New Years Celebration, several protesters stood outside the Boston library. Topics ranged from politics to war, but race police brutality took the forefront. While many were part of the Black Lives Matter movement, some, such as Dennis Jackson, tried to advocate on behalf of the police and claimed that not following an officer’s orders would be “suicide by cop.”
Others felt that his position may have been well-intended but misplaced. One protester in particular felt that this sort of rhetoric blames the victim.
In total, only a few hundred participated in the protest, and soon dispersed into the Boston New Year’s activities.
