The Secular Coalition for America is a nonprofit advocacy organization whose mission is to protect and strengthen the secular character of government. On Tuesday, September 9, they staged a march at the Supreme Court protesting the recent Hobby Lobby decision. This refers to the ruling that certain for-profit businesses can, on religious grounds, be exempted from the Obamacare requirement that health plans offered to workers include FDA-approved birth control with no co-pays.
Members of the Secular Coalition for America, as well as students and DC residents, rallied for new legislation and social change. They created a knitted brick wall symbolizing their efforts to maintain separation between church and state. Protestors marched from the Supreme Court all the way to Capitol Hill, carrying their wall of knitted bricks.
