“Musk is a fascist clown, run that loser out of town!” chanted protesters outside the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau tonight opposed to “DOGE” and Trump cutting operations at the CFPB.
“Hey hey, ho ho, Elon Musk has got to go!”
“Lock him up! Lock him up!”
Senator Elizabeth Warren spoke out, the first of many members of Congress pledging at the event to “withholding your vote” on all Trump nominees and agenda items “until this constitutional crisis is over.”
“I am with you to fight for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau,” she said. “The CFPB is the cop on the beat, ands that cop is the one that caught the crooks and so far has made them give back $21 billion!”
“Elon has a plan for a new platform called xMoney,” said Warren. “The CFPB is there to make sure Elon’s new project can’t scam you or steal your sensitive personal data.”
“So Elon’s solution? Get rid of the cops, kill the CFPB.”
“We are here to fight back!”
“So Elon Musk wants to shut down the CFPB but we’re here to say, we’re going to shut down Elon Musk’s illegal operation!” declared Senator Chris Van Hollen.
“Elon Mask, we’re on you, bring your ass over here,” said Rep Maxine Waters. “We have worked too hard, we have fought too hard for this democracy, and we aren’t turning it over to Elon Musk!”
“Back in my district, I don’t care if it’s payday lenders, or it’s medical debt, or it’s overdraft fees, people are hurting,” said Rep Frank Pallone. “And it’s only because of this agency that they have someone to fight for them against all these predatory practices.”
“Elon Musk needs to keep his greedy, grubby hands off of our government,” said Rep Ayanna Pressley. “Know that the Democrats that stand behind me, they have got your back.”
“We will stand up and we will fight until they stand down because we are going to match their energy.”
“Elon, take your musty millions and musty Moscow rights to the moon, because if you don’t, we’re going to stand up!” said Rep Emanuel Cleaver. “We’re gonna do anything we need to do to make sure that the people of this country understand that the CFPB is for them!
“I come today because we put consumer protection over profit,” said Rep. Joyce Beatty. “We will say to Elon Musk and we will say to Donald Trump, we are not afraid of you! Bring it on, because we have people power!”
“I don’t want anyone to say we are emotionally exhausted, because we cannot be,” said Rep Nydia Velazquez. “Because this is the fight of our lives, this is the fight for our children.”
“It has been just over 20 days since Donald Trump has been inaugurated as president and since he has pretty much handed over the entirety of our government to Elon Musk,” said Rep Yass Ansari.
“Stop, Stall, Sue!” the protesters chanted, describing their strategy against Trump and Musk.
“You need people like you, who drive to work every day thinking about how to protect people against fraud,” said Rep Bill Foster.
Rep Lateefah Simon told the story of losing her husband to a devastating illness ten years ago.
“When I think about folks like me who have filed for bankruptcy and who gave all that they have, and I think of the work of the CFPB, I have to tell folks: You have a cavalry! So let them work!”
“Trump and Musk and their billionaire buddies know exactly what they’re doing,” said Rep Gabe Amo. “Not a damn thing is wrong with the work of the CFPB!”
“You are the heroes of the United States of America!” Rep Gregory Meeks told the crowd.
“We are standing together so that everyone, regardless of where you live in this country, you know you have a chance,” said Rep Becca Balint.
“The grifters and the scammers will never stop trying to get rich off of the back of the American people,” said Rep Seth Magaziner. “The CFPB is the cop on the block to make sure that the people are looked out for.”
“Jamie! Jamie!” the crowd chanted as Rep Jamie Raskin arrived at the CFPB.
“A rally a day keeps the fascists away,” he began. “So we gotta keep meeting like this.”
“The president of the United States himself could not destroy the CFPB,” he said. “So where in the hell does Elon Musk think he’s got the power to do it?”
“I’d have to see what it is.” Rep Brad Sherman received boos from the crowd when he refused to commit to withhold his votes “on anything MAGA Mike Johnson wants.”
“Withhold your vote!” the crowd chanted at him, before he described that he just passed bipartisan legislation that helps veterans and explained his support for the CFPB since its inception in Congress.
