Crowds confronted ICE agents in Brighton Park, Illinois Saturday afternoon after agents shot a woman there who they say had blocked their vehicles while armed with a gun.
Update: A federal criminal complaint filed against Marimar Martinez accuses her of ramming into an agent’s vehicle, but makes no mention of a firearm.
Some threw objects at ICE vehicles, and agents replied by tossing tear gas out the windows and at crowds.
ICE agents threw tear gas into the Brighton Park neighborhood, with canisters ending up on bystander porches and under parked cars.
ICE, CBP, ATF, and FBI agents gathered near the scene of the shooting, where protesters yelled at them as well.
One agent danced along to chants of “No hate! No fear! ICE is not welcome here!”
Some vehicles driving past the federal agents revved their engines to gas them out.
“ICE go home!” protesters chanted across the street. “Shame! Shame!”
People approached the rifle-carrying immigration agents and FBI agents who pulled back from them, one setting up a chain link barrier, which the group took back down.
The agents made it to their cars while surrounded by people heckling them, who celebrated as they drove away.
