Armed protesters led by the group “This Is Texas Freedom Force” stood outside an all ages “Drag Queen Christmas” event in San Antonio Tuesday night.
They were opposed by pro-LGBT activists including armed members of the John Brown Gun Club.
Among the groups that showed up to oppose the drag event was white nationalist group Patriot Front, who had two masked members present carrying a flag with a fasces on it.
Others on their side joined them in chanting one of their mottos: “Strong families, strong nation.”
Police generally separated opposing sides, but at one point pushed protesters supporting the drag event across the street and away from people lining up to enter.
This briefly moved an activist with a baseball bat into close vicinity of their opponents, but no violence occurred.
A few times, police would push back a member of one side who crossed the street (traffic was kept flowing) to the other side.
In one case, someone apparently opposing the drag event was physically removed as they confronted the side supporting it.
In total, the protests went on for approximately four hours as armed opponents of the drag event prayed and accused their rivals of being “pedophiles.”
The side supporting the drag event – also very armed – made fun of their opponents and danced most of the time.
One opponent of the drag event emphasized to media afterwards that he only opposes the event for not being 18+, and doesn’t understand why protesters associate him with KKK.
The side supporting the drag Christmas event ended with a loud, synchronized “fuck you!” to the side opposing them before leaving.
“We’re here, we’re queer! We shut their shit down!” they chanted.
The “This is Texas Freedom Force” dispersed shortly thereafter.
