New York State is offering a $100,000 reward for Richard Matt, 48, and David Sweat, 34, who escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility on Saturday morning.

David Sweat was convicted of murdering a New York sheriff’s deputy in 2002 after he shot the deputy 15 times and drove over him with a car. Sweat was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Sweat’s prison mate, Richard Matt, was convicted of kidnapping, dismembering and killing his former boss in 1997. After the murder, Matt fled to Mexico and stabbed a man outside of a bar. Matt’s history also includes a rape, a stabbing of a nurse, and a successful escape from Erie County Jail in 1986. He was serving 25 years to life.

“This is a crisis situation for the state,” New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said over the weekend. “These are dangerous men capable of committing grave crimes again.”
